From Poetry to Perfume: Hermès Launches the 12th Fragrance in the Hermessence Collection

When you think of Hermès, there are a few images that instantly come to mind: equestrian-inspired designs, handmade leather accessories, timeless ensembles and classic scents. This month, Hermès launched their new fragrance, Cuir d’Ange, as a part of their iconic Hermessence collection.

Finding the fragrance:
Jean-Claude Ellena, perfumer to the house of Hermès since 2004, finds his inspiration in many aspects of life—from people to places; however, his most accredited muse is literature. His long-time favorite French novelist, Jean Giono, was a powerful and instrumental part in the creation of Cuir d’Ange. Ellena was particularly interested in the French author’s novel, Jean le Bleu, where the narrator reminisces about his father’s cobbler workshop where he fashioned shoes out of leather.

The scent:
Cuir d’Ange literally translates to leather angels. The concept was to bottle up the gradations of the infamous Hermès leather—a mélange of flowers and musk. The fragrance also features: heliotrope, hawthorn, violet, narcissus, musk and leather and pays homage to Ellena’s hometown of Provence. Cuir d’Ange gives a soft, elegant, and unexpected twist to the smell of leather.

The fragrance is available from April 2015 at Hermès stores in Mumbai and New Delhi.

Vogue chatted with the T-shirt label and asked why the choice of name: “A simple emoji can express how you are feeling or your current disposition. Hence the name Current Moji,” said a member of the Current Moji family.

The spring/summer 2015 campaign, featuring the Tod’s woman, may have her in the ‘Virtuous Elevator,’ but Vogue promises that the bag of the season—the Cape bag—is definitely a sartorial vice.

The seven-series video stars model Elisa Sednaoui who represents the Tod’s woman as she lives a glamorous life with a twist of irony as seen through recognizable daily episodes: she “follows” her diet by carrying around a giant cupcake.

The Italian-made handbag is named after the cape-like appearance of the curves that gently wrap around the corners, and is crafted out of smooth calfskin. Innovative in style, the magnetic fastenings create feminine contours and the corners of the bag unravel to reveal its spacious interiors.

Olé Dolce & Gabbana’s Doll Bags: For the Doll and Handbag Connoisseur

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s latest collection travels from the islands of Italy to the streets of Spain and back— illustrating Spanish influence on the designer duo’s Italian heritage.

We first spotted these hand-painted dolls on Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring ’15 runway. They are designed to resemble souvenirs sold at Italian railway stations during the ’50s and come encased in ornate printed boxes with handles. Amusingly, the models on the runway were dressed identical to the doll box-sets that they paraded as handbags.

The Immacolata (immaculate), the Concetta (conception) and the Addolorata (grieving) figurines are all limited edition pieces in a collection of 300 and styled to symbolise their names. Case in point: the Immacolata dolls are clothed in timeless black dresses and accessorised with ‘Sicily’ bags and gold rosary necklaces.

Vogue predicts this to be the next fashion collector’s item for the stylish señorita.

The doll bags are priced at approx. $2,617.38 and are available to purchase here.
